Properly: Odocoileus hemionus
These deer vary in size, weight and coloration due to climate, breeding, disease, and food supply, thereby resulting in improper classification.
Although at one time the following deer were thought to be different speicies, they are a single species.

Columbia Black Tail : Odocoileus columbianus
Sitka Deer: Odocoileus hemionus sitkensis
